Distinguished and Famous people from The Turquoise Coast
🦞 David Thompson and family
David Thompson Senior began fishing from the coastal shack settlements north of Perth in the 1960s, with Seatips at the start of a business that grew through successive generations. Sons Michael, Matthew and David joined the work, and the family later developed the Cervantes processing operation and Lobster Shack visitor business. Changes in fishing management required changes in how boats and pots were used, while tourism added another way of connecting people with the catch. Their story joins the working coast with its more familiar visitor attractions, through a family whose local knowledge was learned on the water.
🎨 Charles-Alexandre Lesueur
Charles-Alexandre Lesueur joined Nicolas Baudin's French expedition as a volunteer gunner before becoming important to its visual record of natural history. The expedition examined this coast in 1801, and the conspicuous hill north of Jurien Bay was named Mount Lesueur in his honour. The later national park carries the same name. This is an association through the scientific voyage and its place-naming history, rather than a claim that Lesueur settled locally. His name on the landscape recalls the artists and naturalists whose work accompanied early European coastal charting.
